Eileen
My name is Eileen. If you have never been homeless or hungry, I hope you're thankful for all God continues to give you. Because when you have no place to go, are hungry, sick and alone, it's the most miserable feeling on earth.
I was evicted from my home because I was unable to work. My son was supposed to pay the rent, but for some reason he never came up with the money. That was it. I was evicted. When I left the house, I was only able to bring a few personal things with me. For me, the bottom fell out fast. I didn't see it coming. Perhaps, with that background, you can see why I'm overwhelmed at the love and compassion I receive here at the Rescue Mission of Mahoning Valley.
The staff is here for me all the time. They take me to appointments and help me in more ways I can mention. I know many members of the staff have been where I am. They know what I'm going through and they're doing all they can to help me get back on my feet.
They say I now have a glow on my face...and I think it's true
When I came to the Mission I was on the shy side. That's changing little by little. People say I'm beginning to have a glow to my face. It's been a long time since someone has said that. But I know it's true. I'm a happy person today, even though I know I have long way to go.
Another thing that makes me happy is to know someone like you is out there making donations large and small to help people like me. I appreciate the good food, the warm clothing and especially the safe, secure shelter. I don't think I have the words to express how grateful I am. And if you've never donated to the Mission, I hope you'll start today – and no one told me to say that. It's just that so many of us just need help. We rely on your kindness for that assistance.
God bless you and your family at this Thanksgiving season.
Sincerely,
Eileen
