Regina and Patrick
Our names are Regina and Patrick. At this Easter season of rebirth and renewal we simply want to say thank you for your kindness and love to us during this difficult time of our lives. Patrick grew up in a Christian environment. I did not. But one thing we had in common was our addiction to drugs.
I would wake up in the morning and only think about getting high. In the end, I lost everything— my job, my apartment and my sense of self. Patrick was a weekend addict. But he spiraled down even quicker. In fact, he lost everything he had in 12 months. That's what drugs can do to a person. Drugs just about destroyed our lives. The good news is, we finally listened to a wake-up call that shouted, Either get your lives together or you'll have no life at all.
The Mission is a stepping stone to a better life
Right now, we've both been clean for several months. We thank God, the Mission staff, and you who donate your time and money for helping us begin to live sober lives. For us, the Rescue Mission of Mahoning Valley is a stepping stone toward a better life. In the past we'd get a paycheck and the drug man would have it all that night. Today, we no longer waste our money. We're also not wasting our time. We are learning to slow down and learn more about God and his love. We are also taking time to express our gratitude to Him for his mercy and compassion.
We both agree the Mission is our lifeline to better days ahead. If you don't know about the love of God and if you have addiction issues—or you know someone who does—we hope you'll remember the Mission is here for everyone. This is a place of spiritual healing. It's also a haven of hope for those who've lost their way. God bless you and your family this Easter season. Thank you for helping us learn more about our risen Lord.
Your friends, Regina and Patrick
