Who we help
Despite what you think, the people of the Mahoning Valley who are helped by The Rescue Mission don’t fit neatly into any one category.
You may picture a disheveled panhandler, someone who lives under a bridge or pushes his or her only possessions around in a shopping cart.
What you may not realize is that Rescue Mission clients come from all walks of life, and all social and economic strata. You may also be unaware of how they have reached the point in life where they must turn to us for help.
The person we’re helping could be:
- a battered wife
- a teenager with drug-addicted parents
- a veteran who can’t adjust to civilian life
- a divorced father of four who’s out of work
- a mom with a part-time job struggling with two small kids
People who find themselves in these circumstances need not only help for today; they also need hope for tomorrow. They need, and want, to become self-sustaining, productive members of society again.
The goal of the Rescue Mission is to help people who come from these and many other unfortunate circumstances attain that dream.
